Cinnamon & Orange
A perfume's language is that of music – it knows of top, middle, heart, and base notes, of chords, harmony, and of composition. Those linguistic parallels are in no way accidental, but can be accredited to the English chemist and perfumer G.W. Septimus Piesse. In „The Art of Perfumery“ of 1857 he developed a fragrant-musical scale on which he appointed each aromata a musical tone. Thus one can create out of the scents a harmonius composition rather than discords.
According to that scale, oranges lie on the G4 octave and cinnamon on the short octave H3. Such mixture of one light and one dark note merges together quite harmonically, on which our motif on this candle agrees upon as well, Chevalier Esseintes, the hero on a hobby horse, who hebdomadally lets a cinnamon-/orange-bouquet be served up prior to him saddling up for a hack to Berlin's Kreuzberg.
Upon arrival he sings David Bowie's „Heroes“ for the song has something orange-esque to it – it's most beautiful verses lie where Piesse had placed the orange on his scale, the G4 octave: „Nothing will keep us together … for ever and ever … we can be heroes …“. Chevalier Esseintes would also love to sing something cinnamon-esque , but unfortunately, he has not found the right song yet.
Each piece is unique due to its handmade quality.
